In the summer of 2025, the square in front of the European Parliament in Brussels was transformed by SUPERFLEX’s work One Two Three Swing!—a triple swing set that only functions when all participants move in sync. A playful and physical experience that simultaneously offers a powerful image of the need for cooperation and collective movement in a time marked by conflict and polarization.

The work was created on the occasion of Denmark’s EU Presidency and invites reflection on the fundamental principles of democracy: solidarity, interdependence, and dialogue. With its visible location at the heart of the EU’s political center, One Two Three Swing! serves as both a gathering place and a symbolic landmark—a space where European citizens, politicians, and visitors are encouraged to play, converse, and co-create.

The artwork is part of Artist’s Parliament—a cultural initiative launched under the Belgian EU Presidency, where each member state presents contemporary art that responds to Europe’s shared values and challenges. SUPERFLEX was invited by Creator Projects and Artist’s Parliament to contribute a work that activates public space and promotes collective action.

Rooted in the power of art to open new spaces for dialogue and sensory awareness, the swing becomes a metaphor for what it means to move forward—together.

About SUPERFLEX
SUPERFLEX was founded in 1993 by Jakob Fenger, Bjørnstjerne Christiansen, and Rasmus Rosengren Nielsen. Conceived as an expanded collective, SUPERFLEX has consistently worked with a wide variety of collaborators, from gardeners to engineers to audience members. Engaging with alternative models for the creation of social and economic organisation, works have taken the form of energy systems, beverages, sculptures, copies, hypnosis sessions, infrastructure, paintings, plant nurseries, contracts, and public spaces.

One Two Three Swing! was originally conceived for the Hyundai Commission 2017 in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall. Development and production by KWY.studio.
The artwork is permanently installed in the DMZ between North and South Korea, Antwerp (Belgium), AlUla (Saudi Arabia), Taipei (Taiwan) and Vordingborg (Denmark).
