Copenhagen Airport 2026

— Copenhagen Airport – Something In The Way We Move, Phase 4, Ruth Campau

How do you turn the shielding of a construction site into a work of art?

Something In The Way We Move by Ruth Campau is a monumental site-specific painting developed by Creator Projects for Copenhagen Airport. The work stretches 330 meters between Gates B and C in the terminal area and is one of the largest paintings ever made in Denmark, with a total visual surface of 1,800 square meters.

The piece was first installed in 2024 and is now in its fourth temporary phase, with the latest and largest iteration installed in early 2026. It is a work that evolves over time, responding to the flow of passengers and the ongoing transformation of the airport. Approximately 25,000 people pass through the installation every day.

By its very nature, the contemporary airport is in constant flux—expanding, adapting, and continuously under transformation. The work was created on location within a large studio space provided by Copenhagen Airport. Something In The Way We Move will continue to evolve in line with the airport’s expansion until the new terminal is completed in 2028. Through its chromatic spectrum, the artwork tells a poetic story of the airport’s transformation while offering passengers a changing visual experience throughout the construction phases.

Artist Ruth Campau reflects on the work as an exploration of how movement shapes perception—both physically and mentally—when we pass through transitional spaces like airports.

“Travel is movement. It shifts both our physical experience and our perception of the world. Through colour, I hope to give people a positive experience of moving through the airport,” says Ruth Campau.

Something In The Way We Move has been realized by Copenhagen Airport in collaboration with Creator Projects and ZESO Architects.
