Byens Scene – Winner Announced

DR Koncerthuset, Bella Arena and Royal Arena together form the largest concert area in the Nordic region. In 2024, a group of public and private partners launched Byens Scene — a public art and architecture competition aimed at creating three distinctive and experience-rich urban spaces leading to these venues, where art and landscape architecture merge to enhance both everyday life and major cultural events.

Following a two-phased process, the winning proposal has now been selected: The Impact by Doug Aitken and BIG, in collaboration with NIRAS, Volcano and RWDI. The jury praised the proposal for its poetic, sculptural vision and for transforming the urban ground plane into a living, breathing cultural landscape. A golden vein of light, water and vegetation links the three sites — inviting both pause and performance, everyday use and spectacular arrival.

As artistic advisors to the steering committee, Creator Projects is proud to have supported the process behind this ambitious, interdisciplinary collaboration.

The final phase of the competition included two other strong and distinctive proposals:

• Bellscape by Team Snøhetta in collaboration with Camille Norment Studio and WSP Danmark A/S

• Byens scener – Alice i Ørestad by Team Schul Landskab in collaboration with Judith Hopf, Henrik Plenge Jakobsen and Esben Weile Kjær

We thank all teams for their exceptional work and contributions to reimagining Ørestad’s cultural spaces.

Byens Scene is initiated by Danmarks Radio, Bella Group, Bellakvarter, Live Nation, By & Havn, Metroselskabet, Ørestad Innovation City Copenhagen and Field’s / Steen & Strøm, with funding from By & Havn, the City of Copenhagen and DR, and philanthropic support from Realdania.
