Frederiksberg 2024-2026

Frederiksberg Municipality – John Winthers Plads

In collaboration with Frederiksberg Municipality, Creator Projects has developed a site-specific art program that brings new artistic perspectives into the urban landscape.

The program sets the framework for upcoming artworks at John Winthers Plads – the newly renovated square behind Frederiksberg City Hall, now transformed into a greener and more inviting public space.

The purpose of the program is to inspire art that can create new opportunities for locals as well as visitors – across generations and cultures.

It has been decided to invite two recognized, young Danish artists to create a site-specific artwork each in selected areas of the square. The works will respond to the square’s character, use, surroundings and to questions of our time.

The landscape of the square also plays an active part in the art program. Beneath the square are rainwater reservoirs, and Andebakkesøen (the pond) functions as a catchment area for rainwater from the surrounding neighborhoods – including overflow from Frederiksberg Garden. Climate, water, and urban nature are therefore possible thematic focal points for the upcoming works.

With the renewal, the area’s neighbors – Møstings Hus, Frederiksberg City Hall, and Café Svejk – will also have a new and more integrated role in the life and story of the square.

John Winthers Square officially opened on June 7th, and the art program is now publicly available on Frederiksberg Municipality’s website. You can read much more about the considerations behind the upcoming artworks and where they might be placed in the program here: Kunstprogram for John Winthers Plads.

We look forward to sharing more from the project as it unfolds.
