Aarhus 2020

— Danish School of Media and Journalism DMJX

The world-renowned artist Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962) creates light- and videoinstallations to The Danish School of Media and Journalism’s (DMJX) new campus in Aarhus. Rist is internationally known as one of contemporary arts most serious explorers of the living image. Just like journalists words can provoke new thoughts, Rist’ images motivates new ways of communicating and otherworldly meetings between people, here among new perceptions of the human role as an active, changing power in the development of the world. The commission contributes to the vision of a new lively public urban space, when creating a stimulating, social and innovative learning experience with international perspective.

The artwork is initiated and curated by Creator Projects and developed in collaboration with designoffice Kollision as well as Arkitema Architects, who contributed to the architectural and technical integration in the building of the new DMJX campus, which is their work. The commission has been realised thanks to generous donations from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Obel Family Foundation, the Salling Foundations, the Spar Nord Foundation, Beckett-Fonden, the Danish Arts Foundation and FEAS.

Rist is represented by Hauser & Wirth, she had solo-exhibitions at Guggenheim (New York), MoMA (New York) and Utrecht Centraal Museum i.a. In 2019 she had a mind-blowing and very popular exhibition at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark).
