In September 2020 the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX) will relocate to Katrinebjerg in Aarhus. The world-renowned artist Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962) will create light- and videoinstallations to the new campus. Rist is internationally known as one of contemporary arts most serious explorers of the living image. Just like journalists words can provoke new thoughts, Rist’ images motivates new ways of communicating and otherworldly meetings between people, here among new perceptions of the human role as an active, changing power in the development of the world. The commission will be an initiative that strengthens the identity and profile of the Danish School of Media and Journalism and a contribution to the vision of a new lively public urban space, when creating a stimulating, social and innovative learning experience with international perspective.
The swiss artist will develop the site-specific piece in close collaboration with architects, Arkitema, Art Consultant, Creator projects and Light-Architect, Kollision. Rist is represented by Hauser & Wirth, she had solo-exhibitions at Guggenheim (New York), MoMA (New York) and Utrecht Centraal Museum i.a. In 2019 she had a mind-blowing and very popular exhibition at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark).
