The three major venues DR Koncerthuset, Bella Arena and Royal Arena together form the largest concert area in the Nordic region. in 2024 a number of partners launched the art and architecture competition ‘Byens Scene’, which will result in three urban spaces leading to these venues, where art and landscape architecture will be integrated. The project aims to support a positive everyday life whilst offering usable urban spaces and activities, and at the same time give concertgoers a unique experience when they arrive by metro on their way to a concert or an event.

In September 2024, the initial five teams entered Phase 1—the idea phase—each developing a unique artistic and architectural vision to creatively connect DR Koncerthus, Bella Arena, and Royal Arena. The result was five challenging and well-considered proposals with high-quality overarching concepts.

Out of five visionary proposals that inspired lively and challenging discussions during the evaluation meetings, the Jury Committee has chosen to select three proposals to advance to Phase 2:

‘Bellscape’ by Team Snøhetta in collaboration with Camille Norment Studio and WSP Danmark A/S

´The Impact´ by Team BIG in collaboration with the American artist Doug Aitken, NIRAS and Volcano.

´Byens scener – Alice i Ørestad´(“The city´s stages – Alice in Ørestad”) by Team Schul Landskab in collaboration with Judith Hopf, Henrik Plenge Jakobsen and Esben Weile Kjær.

The proposals will be further developed over the coming months, with a final winner to be selected by the summer of 2025.

The initiative is backed by Danmarks Radio,Bella Group, Bellakvarter, Live Nation, By & Havn, Metroselskabet, Ørestad Innovation City Copenhagen, and supported by Realdania.
